Information for Investors
As you may remember, The Winnipeg Stock Exchange merged operations with the TSX Venture Exchange.  The WSE, by provincial statute, was then restructured as a non-profit corporation renamed The WSE Holding Corporation.  It adopted as a mandate the broad objective to support initiatives that would increase capital formation for business enterprise in the Winnipeg centered area. As one of its initiatives, it has sponsored WAO, an organization that would provide networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors – an Angel Network - that would include as members any private individual, non-government organization or corporate entity that wished to join.

WAO has designed a network that would introduce investors on a confidential, anonymous basis to entrepreneurs with start-up business ideas that require seed capital typically in amounts less than $1M.  Access to the network is open only to qualified WAO Regular Members who also meet the “accredited investor” test in MSC Rule 45-103 and become Angel Members.

WAO Members who are not eligible or have not yet chosen to be Angel Members, however, will also benefit from WAO Regular Membership through access to sponsorship and support opportunities for capital formation related activities.  Regular Members, Individual or Corporate, will be able to network and provide services to both entrepreneurs and investors and will have the ability to influence the design and operation of this system.  WAO Regular Members will be able to participate in formal investment presentations or workshops that may be made by entrepreneurs accessing the network.  Regular Members will also have the opportunity to offer mentorship services to these emerging businesses.

Your membership in WAO will give you a voice in the organization and its committee structure.  It will also give you a platform to bring forward and promote capital formation issues that are of concern to you or your company, helping to increase sources and strengthen the capital structure for Manitoba business.  For instance, The WAO fully intends to support an initiatives such as the initiative led by WSE Holdco to expand the current METC tax credit for public companies to include credits for private placements such as those that will be presented through the WAO Network.

Other areas and solutions to support local and regional business are planned.  Based on the 100 year history behind these organizations, The WSE and WAO intend to continue to be active participants in the financial community in the Winnipeg centered region.

You are invited to sent an application to WAO. Application forms for Regular Individual or Corporate and for Angel Membership can be reached at the following link. Click here.
